A Clear Message

Two days ago I felt trapped in a hamster wheel that would never stop.  I kept going on and on, doing all the things that needed doing.  I wondered to myself how the busyness can happen so quickly after having two weeks of vacation.  As I was gearing up to begin another day, I saw this quote:

“No matter how fast life is moving around us, there is always a place of stillness inside.” (notification on my phone from the Headspace app)

Hmmm, I thought to myself.  Good to remember!

Shortly thereafter, my youngest granddaughter was at my house.  She was watching an episode of “Bluey” (a cute Australian children’s show on Disney, Jr.).  In this episode, Bluey sits to meditate a moment amidst chaos so she can remember something that she has forgotten.

The message became crystal clear.  I should take some time to sit in stillness today.  So, I did.  I have been practicing yoga daily, so I took some time on the mat to give myself a breather and let my mind and body rest.

It was good.  It was needed.  The messages of that day had made their point.

Now to remember those messages when things get busy again.

  1. I fairly certain you aren’t alone in needing a moment – or two. Your post slowed me down for a minute. Thank you.

    • You are welcome. I sometimes worry about living from school break to school break. I worry about the life that is passing by as I scurry around trying to keep all of the plates spinning. This was a reminder to me that I have it within me to slow down. I don’t need to wait for the next school vacation. Have a good evening, Christine.

  2. I’m so glad you listened to the messages you’ve been receiving to “sit in stillness.” This is great advice and I think I need to take it too. Now, I just need to figure out when/where I will “sit in stillness”… maybe when I get up in the morning before I get started with my day. Hmm, I’m not sure, but you definitely have me thinking. I still need to look into the Headspace app.

    Thanks for sharing!
    🙂 Kris

  3. I’m often remiss about deleting those Headspace notifications without really reading them. Perhaps I need to slow down and take those moments to be meditative so I can stop amongst the busy-ness. (After all, that IS why I use Headspace.)

  4. A moment of stillness is all that’s needed sometimes. And to remember that in the busyness of most days is definitely a challenge! I think that the trigger for me would be when I realize how busy I am and use that as a trigger to stop and take a moment to sit still. It doesn’t have to be for a long time, but just stopping when we notice the overwhelm and doing something about it is key.

  5. Your post made me think about how often I am in a quiet space allowing myself to be physically and mentally still. Not often. Even during my 30 minute drive to and from school daily, I have the radio or a podcast on. I shall challenge myself to commute in silence at some point this week to see how it feels. Who knows what might happen! Thank you, Tracy. Wishing you a peaceful and more still week ahead. — Christie
