Shy
Always keeping to the shadows,
afraid to share my voice
for fear of what others
will think.
Shy
Knowing there is so much more
I can contribute to the world,
yet stifling my own voice
unhappily.
Shy
Finally deciding in the middle of life
that enough is enough;
so I write, share, and begin
to feel joy.
Shy
Still nervous, but feeling alive,
feeling like I am finally
on the right track.
I am home.
I am so glad you are slicing this year!
Shy is such a powerful word – for teachers and for students.
Home is a comfort and can mean so many things. Thanks for sharing some insight into your thinking today.
Thank you, Tammy! This is an exciting opportunity for me. I appreciate your comments!
Your third stanza is an inspiring turning point- your next poem can be called Brave!
Hi, Tracey! I love the idea of a poem called Brave. Ideas are coming to me already. Thank you for sharing!
I am so glad you are joining us this month. The challenge and this community is the perfect cushion for your voice. I agree with Tracey, Brave would be a great next poem.
Thank you, Leigh Anne! I am so glad to be a part of this. I truly believe that the support and encouragement I receive from my Teach Write friends is what made this possible. All of you are amazing, and I appreciate you so much!
Yaaaay for your first slice! I feel the exact same way. I always felt like it was arrogant to assume people would want to know what I was thinking, but now I know it’s really just for me, and if other peoplelike it, cool. If not, oh well. I love this poem. I’m sure I’ll be reading it again at a future date when I need to hear this sentiment again.
Thank you for reading, Grace! Yes! You captured the feeling exactly. It’s amazing how that fear can effectively keep a person from pursuing the goals they have. No more, though! It feels right to write and share. Enjoy your weekend, Grace!
You are daring. Being shy and sharing your stories shows you as a risk taker. I hope you will enjoy the month of writing!
Terje, less than a year ago I would not have been able to do this. I credit the support and encouragement I have received in the Teach Write group for the courage to take this risk. Thank you for reading, Terje!
